DEP Unveils Plans

Alliance for Action President Jerry Keenan testified at a recent DEP stakeholder meeting about the importance of distributing about $1 billion in federal water infrastructure projects. The DEP is hosting additional hearings. DEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourette says federal dollars will fund about $170 million in spending in water projects this year.  

The Alliance will host a major forum on the federal infrastructure plans for NJ on March 30; Commissioner LaTourette will be one of four state government speakers; the others being Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, BPU President Joe Fiordaliso and Sr, VP of NJ TRANSIT Capital Programs, Eric Daleo. All are key implementers of the infrastructure funding coming to our state.

Keenan and Del Bene Address College Presidents

Alliance President Jerry Keenan and Board Chair Amanda Del Bene recently addressed the monthly meeting of the New Jersey Presidents’ Council, made up of the leaders of each of the state’s more than 40 institutions of higher education. Workforce issues around infrastructure were a key part of the meeting discussion.

Atlantic City Expressway to “Go Cashless”; Bids Sought

The 47-mile long Atlantic City Expressway will be the first of the state’s toll roads to eliminate toll plazas. Bids for the turnkey, all-electronic toll collection system are due March 11. Officials also plan to move forward on cashless tolls on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike.  

NJ American Water Files For Rate Adjustment

New Jersey American Water has filed a petition with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for new rates based on the significant investment the company has made in its water and wastewater infrastructure. The new water rates would fund a long list of new water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades. The company plans to hold virtual information sessions for municipal partners the week of February 28.

Army Corps Announces Beach Replenishment, Intracoastal Waterway, Other Improvements

About $30 million in funding from the federal bipartisan infrastructure bill will be used to replenish beaches in northern Ocean County via funding from the Army Corps of Engineers. 

In addition, The US Army Corps has announced $14.3M for repairs to the NJ Intracoastal Waterway, including repairs for the Point Pleasant Canal bulkhead.

NJ Gets EV Funding From Washington

New Jersey is getting $15.4 million in Federal dollars this year to help finance a network of electric car charging stations. It’s part of a nationwide plan to install 500,000 charging stations countrywide by 2030. The state is expected to get $104.4 million for such projects over the next five years.

Jersey City to Spend $1B on Wastewater Improvements

Jersey City will spend more than $1.1 billion in lead water service line replacement and sewer upgrades over the next decade. The program stems for an agreement between the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority and the federal government.

Matt Platkin, former Chief Counsel to Governor Murphy, has been nominated to become the State’s Attorney General.

Genova Burns Founding Partner James M. Burns, Esq. will take on the Firm’s Managing Partner role. Current Chairman & Managing Partner Angelo J. Genova, Esq. will continue as Chairman.

Monica E. de los Ríos is now Interim Executive Director to the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA). She replaces former Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty. Rich Tolson, vice chairman of CRDA’s Board of Directors has also left the Authority.

Eric Brophy has been named Senior Advisor to the Governor for Economic Development at Office of the New Jersey Governor. He was previously Executive Director of the NJ Educational Facilities Authority.

Cristina Martinez has joined Gilbane Building Company as Business Development Manager in the firm’s Newark office.
