What Does The Fed “Down Payment” on Gateway Mean?


President Biden’s FY 2024 Budget now includes $700 million for the Gateway tunnel. Why is this important?

PANYNJ Begins Plans for Greater EWR Access


The Port Authority has taken an important step via $12 million in funding for planning and preliminary design of the EWR Station Access Project, which will provide greater access for Newark and Elizabeth residents to the Airport. The Alliance has been an advocate for greater airport access. 

NJBPU Takes Third Round of Offshore Wind Solicitations

 

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has “started the clock” on accepting applications for its third offshore wind solicitation. The BPU is calling for proposals that provide between 1,200 and 4,000 megawatts of offshore wind power capacity, which could more than double the previously approved solicitations. The application period closes on June 23.

PSE&G Announces New Capital Construction Commitment



Utility capital construction has another big boost! The planned 2023 to 2032 capital spending program of Public Service Electric & Gas -the state’s largest - is now slated to be $34 billion to $40 billion. The new number reflects future investments in transmission, electric distribution, gas, and clean energy and is part of their most recent report to investors. 

PANYNJ, NJ EDA and NJ Turnpike Authority Name New Leaders

 

Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage, Murphy administration Chief of Staff George Helmy, and Deputy Chief of Staff for economic growth Joe Kelley, have been named to the Board of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.  

 

Terry O’Toole will be the new Chair of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. Virginia Bauer and Aisha Glover were reappointed to the NJEDA board for new terms.


Francisco Maldonado-Ramirez of LIUNA and NJ-LECET has been appointed as the newest New Jersey Turnpike Authority Board of Commissioners.

South Jersey Port Infrastructure Improvements Announced



Berth 1 at the Balzano Marine Terminal is getting new stabilization improvements so the port can meet increasing business activity. The construction expense will total $750,000. 

NJTPA To Host Forum On Implications of Offshore Wind For Transportation


The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority is hosting a workshop on Off-Shore Wind Development Needs and Implications for Regional Planning on March 23, 2023, at 10 am. For additional information click here.

Rogers Joins Alliance Team


Ashley Rogers has joined the Alliance for Action team as our new Public Information Manager.

Ashley will manage our evolving social media strategy, develop and maintain our new website and expand strategic awareness of the Alliance for Action. She is a graduate of Alvernia University.

NJ TRANSIT Begins Payment to GDC

 

NJ TRANSIT has begun an annual $19 million payment to support operation of the Gateway Development Commission (GDC). GDC is charged with building the Gateway Tunnel and related infrastructure.

New Jersey American Water Investing Billions in System Investments


New Jersey American Water reported nearly $600 million in infrastructure spending in 2022, besting a recent average of slightly over $400 million. NJAW expects another $400 million investment in 2023 and $2.5 billion is expected in the next five years.

Carpenters’ Union, Carpenter Contractor Trust and Carpenters’ Training Funds to Host Expo

 

On March 30, 2023, in Atlantic City, The Construction Showcase will feature over 50 of the best-trained 4th year union carpenter apprentices in a live competition of hands-on trade and technical career skills during a day-long challenge at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

People And Companies On The Move


Gov. Phil Murphy announced the promotion of Eric Brophy to deputy chief of staff for economic growth.


Ray McGuire, former Citigroup executive and 2021 New York City mayoral candidate, is the new chair of the Regional Plan Association. McGuire will be the first person of color to serve as Chair.


The Camden Community Partnership has new officers for 2023, including:


Co-Chairs Victor Carstarphen (Mayor of Camden) and Mark McDonough (President of New Jersey American Water).

Mr. McDonough is also a member of the board of the Alliance for Action.

 

Andy Raichle, P.E., Vice President, Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix), is now a

Commissioner of the New Jersey State Tidelands Resource Council. He had been nominated by Governor Murphy and confirmed by the State Senate.


Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation, a national real estate investment, development and management firm, has named Paul J. Nasser as President. As President, Mr. Nasser continues to manage the firm’s resources across investment and operating disciplines.


Gene Rotonda, PSE&G Engineer and Licensing Permit Manager, received an award for the newly constructed PSE&G 69KV Paterson Substation. It was for Outstanding Public Project in Historic Preservation and Compatible Design and issued by the Paterson Commission on Historic Preservation.


The Greater Atlantic City Chamber has named Richard DeRose, lead government affairs specialist for SJI, the recipient of its Outstanding Young Professional award.
